John Caudwell’s story is a real rags to riches tale, from sweeping the floor in a pottery, John then went on to sell Phones 4u for £1.64 billion after building the business from organically a one man start up in 1987 to 10,000 people in 2006, from just a few thousand pounds turnover to over £2 billion and from an initial loss of £20,000 in the first year to a profit of nearly £200 million in the year of sale.
John and his partner Claire Johnson are very passionate about The Caudwell Children’s Trust which they set up in March 2000. To date Caudwell Children has donated over £11 million to thousands of children. The Charity has some of the world’s most recognised celebrities as ambassadors including Hollywood actress and author, Joan Collins, actress Elizabeth Hurley, Rod and Penny Stewart, Bruce Forsyth and singer, Robbie Williams. The late Stephen Gately who recently passed away was also a goodwill ambassador of the charity and his family recently asked for all donations to go to the charity rather than fans send in flowers showing the respect and worth that he had for the charity.
John and Claire’s lives have recently been turned upside down with the news that Claire has Breast Cancer. John has been with Claire every step of the way and she has now undergone a successful course of treatment. She is currently doing everything she can to get her story out there to spread awareness about the importance of looking after yourself.
John and Claire live in Staffordshire with their son, Jacobi and they spend all their time on the charity and new business ventures, skiing and cycling. John admits to being an adrenalin freak, he has three of the fastest road-legal bikes in the UK and he has been known to cycle from Stoke to London for a meeting.
